Indeed, this whole thing may be cool, but sort of sounds like bad Bond villain plot or some cheesy sci-fi made for tv movie plot.
there was an infinitesimal chance the collider would create a microsingularity — but in the vanishingly unlikely event that happened, the singularity would evaporate just as quickly as it was created.
the apocalyptic predictions of doom and gloom were just as jeff says: cheezy sci-fi. (david brin, a physicist and sci-fi author, wrote a decided not cheezy book about it called… i think… Earth about 10-15 years ago.)
anyway, the collider worked perfectly. in the long run, it’s definitely gonna end life as we know it… but in a good way: it’s gonna usher in a new age of scientific discovery.
