Saturday, Jeff and I trekked to Atlanta to see R.E.M. in Atlanta.
Wow! They put on one hell of a show.
The National and Modest Mouse opened. The National was okay … their songs were pretty repetitive (in my opinion). Modest Mouse, on the other hand, really rocked. I had not ever heard them before but (based on the strength of that set they played) I am gonna have to get some of their albums.
The R.E.M. set was two hours of pure fantastic! I really like the video screen set up they had for their stage which was lots of live feeds from the stage. They played a good mix of old and new songs. Highlights for me were “Man-Sized Wreath,” “I’m Gonna DJ,” “The One I Love,” “Nightswimming” and “Elcotrolite” (with the sea of cellphone lights music break … it was cool).

Ignoreland and Nightswimming were the two biggest hits with me all night. And loved the new stuff as well. I just can’t get over how great a show it was. I was expecting it to be good, but it went beyond expectations.
Ah, The National, one of my latest obsessions. Their last album “Boxer” is very subtle; at first I didn’t care much for it, but then it growed on me and now I can’t get enough of it. If you don’t want to buy it, you can always…dwnld 😉
